In Meieriet Culture Centre in Leknes, in the heart of Lofoten, you’ll find the exhibition room SI.LO, which houses an exhibition of arts and crafts from all over Lofoten.
SI.LO is owned by Nina Beyer and Maria Kirkesæther and was established with the objective of highlighting the professionalism, quality and broad spectrum of arts and crafts that can be found in the archipelago. All the artists represented in the gallery come from or work in Lofoten.
Here you’ll find textiles from Rundt & Rundt Redesign, jewellery from 925 Catrine Linder and pottery from Gunvor Tangrand and Signert Netta. All of it is meticulously selected and curated in order to make the visit to SI.LO a worthwhile cultural experience in itself.
In addition to this, Nina Beyer also exhibits her own work. She grew up in Gravdal, Lofoten, and studied at the Bergen Academy of Art and Design. According to her, she chooses her motifs from an interior feminine, dreamlike world and switches between fantasy and reality.
Nina Beyer and Maria Kirkesæther emphasise how they convey the art, and all the gallery staff are well versed in the extensive knowledge and history surrounding the arts and crafts displayed there. They hope this contributes to make people stop and wonder – to open the eyes of any visitors and inspire them to venture into fields that they perhaps don’t encounter so often in their daily lives.
