Join us on a trip to one of Norway’s most spectacular fjords with high mountainsides rising directly from the sea. The Trollfjorden is a narrow arm of the Raftsundet that cuts nearly 3 km into the landscape and is less than 100 m wide as its narrowest point. The Battle of Trollfjorden, which occurred here in 1890, is described in Johan Bojer's book “The Last Viking”, and the fjord has provided inspiration for many artists over the years. Various providers in Lofoten offer trips to the Trollfjorden by speedy rigid inflatable boat (RIB), larger passenger boats, yachts or on board the Hurtigruten. If you want to experience the spectacular fjord under your own steam, local guides can accompany you by sea kayak or on a hike over the mountains. The Trollfjorden is not accessible by road so you will need to park your car. In general on all sea trips you will need good water and wind-proof clothing.

White-tailed sea eagle

Lofoten has an exciting bird life, and the region is visited by several hundred bird species during the year. The archipelago is also the resting place for rarer species and birding enthusiasts can look forward to the diversity of species in the varied landscape. The largest species of them all is the majestic white-tailed sea eagle, which may be found on the mountainsides, on islets and circling above the fishing boats. The wingspan of the white-tailed sea eagle can reach up to 2.7 m and apart from its size distinctive features include the white tail it gets from adult age and its razor sharp gaze.

In Lofoten the white-tailed sea eagle is the most common eagle species, but if you are lucky you may also see the slightly smaller golden eagle, which also lives in the area. Here in Lofoten several providers offer sea safaris on which we take you to areas frequented by the white-tailed sea eagle and where the puffin and guillemot often also appear. The cormorants that flap their wings on the islets are both wrapped in legends and decorative and are often great photo subjects.

We have several providers who can take you on exciting bird and eagle safaris. Remember your camera and binoculars. Have a great trip and good luck!
